What files a jeweler needs: STL, glTF, and a spec sheet

A useful handoff pairs a makeable 3D form with reviewable visuals and written measurements — so the jeweler is not guessing from a screenshot.

The short answer

Jewelers typically need a 3D form they can evaluate for manufacture (often STL or a CAD format), a clear visual for client review (such as glTF or stills), and a written spec covering stones, metal, sizes, and setting details. Gemistry Labs exports STL, glTF, and a spec PDF together for that reason.

STL — the form

STL describes surface geometry. It is widely understood in jewelry CAD/CAM and casting workflows. It is not a complete material or gem bill of materials by itself; it carries the shape the jeweler will interpret and refine.

glTF — the review model

glTF is a portable 3D asset format suited to interactive review in browsers and many tools. It helps you and the jeweler look at proportions and silhouette together without requiring everyone to open specialized CAD software first.

Spec PDF — the decisions

The spec sheet captures the decisions that geometry alone does not: center and accent stones, metal, band profile cues, setting style, and other notes that belong in a jeweler conversation. Screenshots without specs leave too much open to interpretation.
